Virtual Baja
Task assigned:
Every team has to design, analyze and simulate a prototype of a Baja vehicle for a fictitious firm
to manufacture the product at a rate of 4000 vehicles per year. They are required to keep in mind that the product is to be designed for assembly, thus, the approach of the project include principles for Design for Assembly. The students are required to submit the following reports: Preliminary Design Report, indicating the basic approach followed in designing and analyzing the vehicle, an Engineering Design Report, indicating a detailed description of all the components of the Baja Vehicle Assembly and a Project Report, with detailed modeling of the vehicle all its parameters and specifications, the thought process behind each component and technical specifications of each component along with its drawings in both orthogonal and three dimensional views.
What we did :
In our 106 slide presentation,we attempted to follow the product design strategy which we reckon to be an organized one. We realized from this experience that designing something is not only about being able to put our thoughts and imagination into a feasible structure, but more so about its manufacturability and methods to optimize it.
The Verdict :
Our untiring and determined labour bore fruit when our team was adjudged the best team of the country with 883 points with a nearest contender 95 points away . The unprecedented win proved our caliber and provided us a " wild card " entry in Mini Baja Asia 2010 held at Pithampur , India .
